David Gudelunas, Ph.D.

 
 

ABOUT

David Gudelunas is Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Tampa where he also serves as Professor of Communication. Gudelunas received his PhD and MA from the University of Pennsylvania and his BA from the University of San Francisco.

He previously served as Director of the School of Communication, Arts and Media, Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, chair of the graduate and undergraduate programs in Communication, and as Director of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Fairfield University

Gudelunas researches and teaches in the areas emerging media technologies, gender, sexuality and communication, and communication industries.  In addition to being a popular teacher, he is a widely published scholar and the author of Confidential to America: Newspaper Advice Columns and Sexual Education (Routledge) and co-editor of RuPaul’s Drag Race and the Shifting Visibility of Drag Culture (Palgrave) and Drag in the Global Digital Public Sphere: Queer Visibility, Online Discourse and Political Change His scholarship has appeared in Popular Communication, Journal of Homosexuality, and Psychology and Marketing. He serves on the editorial boards for QED and Sexuality and Culture.

Gudelunas has appeared in local and national media including MSNBC, THE AP, The Christian Science Monitor, the Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He lives in Tampa, Florida.
